Low level flood defences are being deployed in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury as the River Severn rises following recent rain.

The barriers have been put in place by the Environment Agency following the heavy rainfall over the weekend and further wet weather forecast over the next few days.
The Environment Agency says flooding may affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Shrewsbury to Upper Arley. Other locations that may be affected include Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth.
Flood defences in Shrewsbury were last deployed in June when heavy rainfall led to the River Severn rising. Shrewsbury Carnival almost had to be postponed because of the height of the river, but organisers, volunteers and local agencies worked together to make sure the event could take place.
Current Predicted Peaks
The Environment Agency has predicted the following levels on the Severn:
– Crew Green peaked at 6.0m this morning
– Welshbridge 2.8m to 3.2m, Tuesday afternoon
– Buildwas 3.9 to 4.3m, Tuesday afternoon
– Bridgnorth 3.0 to 3.5m, Tuesday afternoon
Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours and rivers are forecast to rise again. River levels are expected to remain high until Wednesday.
Flood Warning
Flood warnings have been issued for the River Vyrnwy at Maesbrook and River Vyrnwy at Melverley.

Flood alerts are in place for:
– River Severn in Shropshire
– Severn Vyrnwy Confluence
– Ledwyche Brook and River Rea

It’s now rapidly filling with flood water from the River Vyrnwy and Severn. It delays the arrival of floodwater at Shrewsbury. pic.twitter.com/NY8C1yChtP
