The event on Saturday 6th April is being organised by family and friends of Ben Bebbington who was killed in Shrewsbury last September. As well as paying tribute to Ben on what would have been his 44th birthday it is hoped it will raise awareness and funds for the Shrewsbury Ark, a charity that had supported Mr Bebbington in recent years.

The day will involve music being performed in various locations around the town from 10am. Performances will cover a whole range of musical genres from opera and classical to contemporary and folk.

To officially launch the event, musicians and organisers gathered at Music Bros in Mardol, Shrewsbury who are giving their full support to the event and will be hosting performances outside their shop on 6th April.

Clive Beasley, owner of Music Bros said: “The event is generating a real buzz, people are coming into the shop and talking about it, many of our customers have said they will be taking part.”

Jayne Carpenter, a professional opera singer, will be giving three performances in the Darwin Shopping Centre on the day, she said: “I’m really excited about the opportunity to bring opera into such an accessible public space. It is such a lovely way to share a whole variety of music with people whilst raising awareness and funds for a wonderful local charity.”

Beth Prior who is a local singer songwriter said: “I am made up to be part of this fabulous event and if all goes according to plan I’m hoping to deliver a couple of surprises on the day as well!”

Annie Bebbington and Karen Higgins Ben’s sisters and organisers said: “There is always space for more performers to take part, the more the merrier. Anyone interested in taking part on the day please could they email us on shrewsburyhappydays@live.co.uk or contact 07807 162 207”
