The Big Busk Christmas Party – Busking around the Christmas Tree – will be held at the Boathouse pub on Sunday 30 November 2014 from 5pm.
It will feature live music from the wonderful Gareth Rhys Jones, winner of Original Shrewsbury’s Christmas single This Is Your Christmas. Gareth was also one of the first musicians to lend his support to the original Big Busk in 2013, helping to make the event become a reality.
There will also be music from Two Faced Tom & The Bootleg Boys, a fantastic up- and-coming bluegrass, country-rock inspired band from Shrewsbury. The two live acts will be followed by an open mic session for any musicians who want to come along and take part.
And to help get you into the festive spirit, there will also be a winter barbecue, mulled cider and festive drinks available.
The event will also feature some very important news about the Big Busk 2015.
The Big Busk first took place in 2013 and was organised by the family of Shrewsbury busker Ben Bebbington, who died after an unprovoked attack in September 2012. Money from the event goes to Shrewsbury Ark, which supported Ben during his life.
Ben’s sister, Annie Hambley, said: “The two Big Busk events have helped us remember and celebrate Ben’s life and now it feels right that this Christmas we can really celebrate all the wonderful efforts of people in our community who have been a part of that.
“Christmas is a time of love and peace, and those really are the key message of the Big Busk, so we would like to invite people to come and help us kick start the festive season in style.”
Gareth added: “Shrewsbury has a fantastic network of musicians and this and events like the Big Busk are a great opportunity for everybody to come together and have fun. I am delighted to be a part of it.”
Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Beverley Baker, will be attending and there will be Big Busk collection buckets around the venue for anyone wishing to donate money towards Shrewsbury Ark.
