Shrewsbury-based Taybar Ltd has won the prestigious project with St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, which will see it act as the official keyholder for the company, offering reassurance and professional security assistance in the event of alarm activation or trespassers on the firm’s premises.
Steve Taylor, Managing Director of Taybar Ltd, explained: “It’s a hugely exciting time for us as we recently marked our most successful year in business, and we were also recently awarded the Safecontractor accreditation for achieving excellence in our practices and procedures, so taking on St Modwen’s security and reaching this milestone is hat trick for us and we very much look forward to working with them in the months and years to come.”
A person or company appointed as keyholder takes on the responsibility for holding keys to a building, commercial property or residential home for security reasons. Tasking this to an employee can cause issues such as the extra cost of paying staff to be ‘on call’ or available ‘out of hours’, keyholders going on holiday with keys and alarm codes so leaving businesses unable to respond to an incident, and the knock to productivity when a senior member of staff has to respond to an alarm in the early hours, then attend an important meeting or carry out a vital task following an interrupted night’s sleep.
Steve added: “Many times I’ve seen business owners give the responsibility of keyholding to a member of their team, thinking that it’s the most cost-effective solution, but they aren’t aware of the possible implications. Say, for example, their keyholder responds to an issue in the middle of the night, on their own and didn’t tell anyone where they were going, perhaps they fell and hurt themselves, or worse, encountered some sort of danger. They can rightly claim compensation because they were attending a matter relating to work, and this can fall heavily on the shoulders of a business owner.”
“Businesses have a legal duty to care for their staff and management can absolutely be held accountable under various legislation, and be heavily fined and penalised for non-compliance,” he added. “I’d strongly urge anyone interested in finding out how external, trusted keyholding could benefit their business and its safety, to get in touch” Steve concluded.
