North Shropshire Community First Responders are about to celebrate their tenth anniversary.
There are more than twenty CFRs in the north of the county now. An event is being planned for this autumn to which all past volunteers are invited and the search is on to find them. The event aims to get past and present CFRs together to chart its ten year history, to raise awareness of the CFR scheme and its work and begin a fundraising appeal for response cars to replace those which are nearing the end of their working lives.
Community First Responders are everyday members of the public who are trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service in lifesaving skills including the use of a defibrillator – a device used to restart someone’s heart when they have suffered a cardiac arrest. They are sent to medical emergencies in their area by the ambulance service’s control room while an ambulance resource is en-route.
The North Shropshire Community First Responder Scheme covers all areas of the north of the county including Market Drayton, Wem, Whitchurch, Newport and Shawbury. It is a registered charity funded by voluntary donation.
Former scheme members are invited to contact co-ordinator Tonnya Blaise via tonnyablaise@hotmail.com or 07766 317 895 or Tony Hobbs, 07801 570 397 or t.hobbs@tiscali.co.uk .
