The collision involving three vehicles happened on the A458, about a mile to the west of Dinky’s Dinah in Ford just after 9.30pm last night.
Firefighters who were first to arrive at the scene carried out life support on the woman until ambulance crews arrived. Despite all efforts she was confirmed dead at the scene.
A man from the same car was assessed but was uninjured.
A man in his 30s from a second car was trapped for over half an hour. He had suffered facial, hip and leg injuries. He was transported to the major trauma centre at University Hospital North Staffordshire with the MERIT doctor travelling with the crew.
A woman in the third car was uninjured.
Emergency services said weather conditions at the time were very difficult.
The woman who died, is believed to be in her sixties. She was a rear seat passenger in a black Ford Focus. The Focus was travelling towards Welshpool when involved in the collision with a silver Vauxhall Zafira travelling in the opposite direction towards Shrewsbury.
Police investigating the circumstances have appealed for witnesses to contact Shrewsbury police station on 101.
The Shropshire coroner, Mr John Ellery has been informed.
