Firefighters from Shrewsbury were called to reports of a house fire in Manor Crest, Ford near Shrewsbury just after 9am this morning.
The occupier who made the 999 call was advised by a Fire Control Operator to leave her house as quickly as possible.
On arrival, Firefighters witnessed smoke issuing from the property. Crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a covering jet to enter the property where it was determined the smoke was being caused by candle wax that had dripped inside a storage heater.
The property was fully ventilated using a large Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan.
Although no flames were present, the effects of smoke resulted in the occupier needing an ambulance due to the amount of smoke inhaled.
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Upon inspection following the fire, it appeared that the property did not have any smoke detectors.
“We advise all households to have a working smoke detector per floor and to test them regularly. Additionally, good practice such as not placing any items near a working storage heater can help reduce the chances of fires occurring in the home.”
