Speed enforcement to begin in Horsehay

The site is being launched next week in a bid to reduce the excessive speeds being used by motorists along the route.

The location will be part of the Safer Roads Partnership’s Community Concern programme, which responds to community requests for speed enforcement. Local residents raised their concern via Lawley and Overdale Parish Council about the speed of traffic along the 30mph road, and the parish council brought it to the attention of the partnership and asked for action to be taken.

Anna Higgins, Communications Manager at the Safer Roads Partnership said:

“The speed data we collected in the area highlighted a speed compliance problem; four out of ten drivers are exceeding the speed limit and 15% of vehicles are travelling above 35.5mph. We hope that the new site on Station Road will encourage drivers to stick to the speed limit, improve the quality of life for people living in the local area and improve the safety of the road for all those who use it.”

Speed data will be collected while the site is in operation to assess the impact upon traffic speed and driver behaviour.
