Flood defence barriers go up in Frankwell, Shrewsbury

Flood defence barriers are going up in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury this morning as the River Severn rises and further rain is forecast.

Low level flood defence barriers are being put up by the Environment Agency close to Theatre Severn and Frankwell Riverside car park which is closed.

Flood Warnings are currently in place for:

• River Severn at Pentre
• River Severn at the Showground and The Quarry, Shrewsbury
• River Vyrnwy at Maesbrook
• River Vyrnwy at Melverley

River levels are expected to remain high until Monday.

Flood alerts are in place for:

• River Severn in Shropshire
• Severn Vyrnwy Confluence
• Tern and Perry Catchments
• The River Dee Catchment in England from Whitchurch to Chester
• Upper Teme

The Environment Agency says that with further rainfall forecast over the next 48 hours they are closely monitoring the situation.

Motorists are asked to plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
