Flood defence barriers go up in Frankwell, Shrewsbury

Flood defence barriers are going up in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury this morning as the River Severn rises and further rain is forecast.

Low level flood defence barriers are being put up by the Environment Agency close to Theatre Severn and Frankwell Riverside car park which is closed.

River levels are expected to remain high until Monday.

The Environment Agency says that with further rainfall forecast over the next 48 hours they are closely monitoring the situation.

Motorists are asked to plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

Saturday: A cloudy, windy day with outbreaks of rain at times, and a spell of more persistent and heavier rain during the afternoon. The rain clears leaving scattered showers by evening. A high of 11C.
