A meeting to discuss Virgin Trains extending their rail service from London Euston to Shrewsbury onto Wrexham through Gobowen has been hailed a success.
The meeting held at Oswestry’s Guildhall was called by Owen Paterson MP for North Shropshire and saw Ian Lucas MP for Wrexham and Daniel Kawczynski MP for Shrewsbury and representatives from Virgin Trains, Arriva Trains and Network Rail attend.
Owen Paterson regarded the meeting as a success in bringing together the parties when the potential and business case for the extended route was discussed.
It has been agreed that a Working Party comprising of each rail company and the Members of Parliament is formed with the next meeting in 4 weeks’ time examining the possibility of such a service being introduced in the December 2016 timetable.
