With National Cycling Week taking place next week biking enthusiast Miles Kenny, Mayor of Shrewsbury, was the perfect person to launch a new initiative in the town.
Firms on Shrewsbury Business Park are being invited to ‘get on their bikes’ and join in with lunchtime cycling sessions together with their workmates and neighbours.
The idea comes from the Wheels-2-Work team of Shropshire RCC situated in the park’s Creative Quarter and co-ordinator Davina Allen, said: “Shrewsbury Business Park is well connected with cycle paths and quiet roads giving access to some beautiful areas within Shrewsbury and the close surrounding countryside.
“We have a range of cycles of all shapes and sizes for people to borrow and the rides will be an opportunity for them to get some fresh air during their lunchtimes and hopefully see the possibilities for cycling to work in the future too.
“Many people on the business park comment that there are few opportunities to meet other organisations so we hope the social cycle rides will provide people with a welcome break from their desks and a chance to meet others who work in buildings nearby.”
Councillor Kenny, added: “This is a terrific idea not only to help promote the use of cycles in general, especially as car parking is often difficult on this park, but to network with others at the same time and I am delighted to help launch this scheme and wholeheartedly urge people to ‘get on their bike’ and give it a go.”
