A formal ribbon cutting ceremony took place at The Ashes, Weston Road, Morda with Councillor Barrow doing the honours with the scissors. Guests were then invited to view three of the properties.

Councillor Barrow said “It is a pleasure to officially open these houses today and to observe the positive impact these homes will have within the Oswestry and Morda communities. I would also like to welcome Severnside Housing Group into the Oswestry area and hope there may be more Severnside developments like this in the future.”

The Weston Road development is a Rural Exception site, meaning priority is given to housing those with a local connection to Oswestry Rural Parish.

Severnside’s Chief Executive, Sarah Boden, said “We are very pleased by the success of this development. Our aim is to build excellent homes in thriving communities and this aim is realised in Morda.”

Following the ribbon cutting, refreshments were then taken at the Dining Rooms in Oswestry, where there was a special cake to celebrate the occasion.

The build commenced in 2013 in partnership with local builder, SJ Roberts. It was part funded by Homes and Communities Agency and offers a mix of tenure and unit types to address different areas of housing needs.

Mike Sambrook, Managing Director at SJ Roberts, said “We worked closely with Severnside Housing from inception of the Morda scheme and are delighted with the resulting development. The project brought up some interesting site challenges but, by working collaboratively with Severnside and the rest of the design team, these were successfully dealt with.”
