Officers were called to St Mary’s The Virgin church shortly before 4am. They arrested two men aged 33 and 35 from the West Midlands.
A quantity of lead thought to have been removed from the roof was recovered and a car found at the scene was also seized.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Officers traced the men in the vicinity of the church. A police dog also assisted the search.
“The suspects are now in custody while investigations continue.”
The spokesperson added: “It is vitally important for people to know they should call police on 101 immediately they see anything suspicious, especially during the hours of darkness. And if they suspect a crime is in progress, call 999.”
