Thieves cut ‘live’ power lines near Albrighton


The theft occurred at around 5.50am this morning, Weston Power the electricity supplier was contacted by a number of residents who live in the Woodhouse Lane and Rectory Road areas just off the A41 stating their electricity had gone off.

The supplier looked into the issue and quickly discovered that several thousand pounds worth of copper wire had been cut from power lines by unknown individuals.

A set of ladders was discovered left in situ at one spot where copper wire had been cut from and these ladders have now been seized for forensic analysis. We are also looking at the possibility the ladders had been stolen before being used to carry out this offence.

A police spokesman said:

“In addition to the obvious problems and danger the theft of this cabling causes, the value of the copper wire stolen could be several thousand pounds when you consider how much it will cost to replace.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in this part of Albrighton that could be linked to these thefts, and would also remind people that thefts of this sort are extremely dangerous.

“No matter how knowledgeable you believe you are, stealing copper wire or cabling from ‘live’ power lines is incredibly dangerous and could result in the most serious of outcomes for the thief.

“Anyone who believes they may have information about these thefts is asked to call police officers in Shropshire on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 76S 081013.

“Alternatively, please remember that information can also be pass on anonymously by call the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
