Telford trader convicted of selling unroadworthy vehicle

Car trader Mr Nasser Khalaileh, also known as Nasser Khalairels, formerly of Redland Cars, Station Hill Oakengates, was found guilty at Telford Magistrates Court of selling an unroadworthy vehicle.

The offence is a breach of the Road Traffic Act 1988 in case bought by Telford & Wrekin Trading Standards.

Soon after the car was supplied in October 2012 by 46 year old Mr Khalaileh, the new owner had an accident as the brakes failed when he was travelling down a steep hill in Telford.

The car swerved into the side of the road hitting a lamp post. Fortunately the driver wasn’t injured.

It was examined by an expert vehicle examiner at VOSA and he found the car to be unroadworthy

Anita Hunt, the council’s Public Protection Team Leader, said: “I am delighted with the result we have on this case and hope that it sends out a message to other car traders that all cars sold should be safe and fit for purpose regardless of their selling price.

“Telford & Wrekin Council will take appropriate action if traders are found offering for sale, or supplying, unroadworthy vehicles.

“My advice to potential car buyers is to always take it for a test drive and check the car for faults in the daylight, take someone with you if you don’t know much about cars and check whether the car has been involved in an accident.”

Nasser Khalaileh failed to turn up to the hearing and was fined £400 and ordered to pay £1422.93 costs towards the prosecution and a victim surcharge of £40.

Redland Car Sales pitch is now empty but the Trading Standards investigation revealed it is associated with NSN Car Sales in Halesfield 14.
