The two-car head-on collision happened on the A5 at Montford Bridge just north of Shrewsbury shortly after 5pm last Saturday, March 30.

Police Constable Colin Robinson, one of the investigating officers said today: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to this tragedy.

“The A5 was busy with Easter holiday traffic at the time. This is a major route for motorists from the West Midlands heading for Mid and North Wales and there was heavy traffic heading in both directions at the time.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw the actual collision, or indeed, either of the vehicles being driven immediately beforehand, to contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300-333-3000.

“Anyone who thinks they may have seen something which could help the investigation is urged to contact us.”

The Golf was travelling southwards towards Shrewsbury and the Toyota in the opposite direction towards Oswestry.

Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery opened an inquest on Mrs Thomas yesterday for evidence of identification before adjourning it to a future date.
