Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government impressed by Brookside regeneration

Hilary Benn MP visited Brookside Community Centre in Telford to congratulate Telford & Wrekin Council on the investment they are putting into local communities in tough times.

Labour-run Telford & Wrekin Council are pressing ahead with a £6million regeneration to Brookside, and Hilary Benn MP was on hand to see the plans for himself.

At Brookside Community Centre he also met one the Councils new Parish Environmental Action Teams, who are cleaning up the local area for local residents.

Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State then visited Sambrook Centre, to see Labour Telford & Wrekin Co-operative Council in action. The Centre is home to a library, nursery and a credit union. They were brought together under one roof to make the best use of funds in tough times. Hilary Benn MP also took part in a Q & A session on local services too.

Speaking about his visit to Telford, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State said:

“I was really impressed by Labour Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans to regenerate the community and shops in Brookside and the great work going on at the Sambrook centre.

“It is a really good example of the co-operative way of how Labour Telford & Wrekin Council work, listen and deliver what the community wants.”
