The by-election, which will be held on 14th February, was caused by the death of Cllr Brian Duce who passed away on 24th December.
Labour’s candidate, Jane Pinter – who lives in Little Dawley – was selected by Labour Party members who live in the Dawley Magna ward.
Labour’s candidate for Dawley Magna, Jane Pinter, said: “This by-election comes about in very sad circumstances and Brian Duce will be a very hard act to follow but it is an honour to have been selected to stand for election in Dawley.
“I was privileged to work alongside Brian on the Parish Council where I saw just how dedicated and hard-working he was. I am humbled to have been selected by members of Dawley Labour Party to represent the same ward as Brian – the ward where I live.
“The council finds itself in very difficult circumstances financially but has shown through finding new and innovative ways of working it can continue to deliver quality services despite drastic cuts in government funding. If elected, I will work to continue that development and put the needs of my local community first.”
Telford MP David Wright said: “Brian Duce was one of the hardest working and nicest people it has been my privilege to meet and I am confident that, in Jane Pinter, we have a candidate who will do her utmost to live up to the high standards set by Brian.
“Dawley needs a local councillor who understands the needs of their own community and who is a strong voice on the council not an isolated politician talking about things which are remote from the real needs of local people.”
Jane moved to Dawley Bank Telford in 1975 and attended Phoenix School before working at Clifford Williams – the old pyjama factory. Jane is married to Louis and has two daughters aged 24 and 22 – both living locally.
Jane worked as a volunteer for Cats Protection for 15 years before managing their charity shop. Jane is currently a Parish Councillor, a Friend of Dawley Park, and a Friend of Dawley Town Hall.
