Grandmother, Jan Dodd of Berrington, near Shrewsbury, will compete in the Half Marathon event that has attracted an entry of 54,000 runners, including Kenyan runner Emmanuel Mutai who set a new record of just over two hours to win this year’s London Marathon.

She is raising money towards the Multiple Sclerosis Society, as her twin sister who lives in their hometown of Darlington suffers from the disease.

Jan, who is the grants administration officer for the Community Council of Shropshire, based in Shrewsbury, hopes to raise £1,000 through sponsorship for the 13 mile run and has been running around the lanes of Cross Houses as well as training at Bannatynes Health Club in Shrewsbury.

Married with one son, one daughter and four grand children, Jan said: “Even though my sister and I live so far apart, we still remain very close and I have seen just how Multiple Sclerosis affects people’s lives.

“This is a cause very close to my heart and anybody wishing to sponsor me can do so at www.justgiving.com/jan-dodd.”
