Shropshire Young Farmers’ pick up top prizes from National competitions

YFC

This past weekend has seen tremendous results for members of Shropshire Young Farmers’, as they bring home top prizes from National competitions.

Once again, Shropshire YFC has facilitated the opportunity for individuals and teams to compete at a National level, where they have flourished in their fields. The National Sports Day saw two teams from our county go forward to the National round, both of which secured the top two positions. Dorrington YFC went head to head with Whittington and Oswestry YFC in a heated final, but it was Dorrington who were crowned the winners.

Success for Shropshire continued with Clun YFC taking third place in the Senior After Dinner public speaking. After eight months of preparation and five rounds later, their hard work and determination paid off as they were awarded third in the country.

Moving north of the county, Alberbury YFC were continuing the winning streak in the Intermediate Brainstrust. Despite fierce competition the club did the county proud winning second place, with a special mention going to Oliver Steeple for Best Panel Member. Finally, Whitchurch YFC ensured their presence was noted with Rob Weston taking second place in the senior cross country final, and Kate Bennett achieving fourth with her Fashion Make and Model.

The results have yet again shown the opportunities and prospects that this rural youth organisation offers. It is with thanks to the main sponsors whose support is not without recognition: Shropshire Farm Vets, Pickstock Telford Ltd, Turners Furniture and Hatchers Solicitors. The achievements gained over the weekend not only build the participants confidence, abilities and skills, but also strengthens the group spirit within Shropshire YFC. The excitement has spread throughout the organisation, and the members are extremely proud of their fellow peers. They all have one thing to say, #proudtobesfyfc.
