Shrewsbury Morris Dancers are organising the first-of-its-kind event, which will feature performers from as far afield as Cumbria, on July 19.
The group’s leader Ray Langton said that Shrewsbury could expect an exciting day of new and innovative musical entertainment.
“Starting at 10am in the Square, this free event will include some stunning performances of percussive step-dance and virtuoso musicianship,” he said.
“We have booked groups such as The Buffalo Gals Stampede and the Kayobi Taiko Drummers who provide a rhythmic and pounding beat.
“Plus there will also be Appalachian high-kicking and high jinx from the Kickin’ Alice step dancers and Belfagan Women’s Morris are coming all the way from Cumbria.
“In case all that is not enough The Shrewsbury Lasses, Shrewsbury Bull and Pump Morris Men and The Shrewsbury Cloggers will be adding even more magical ingredients and in the evening Shrewsbury Morris are joining forces with Squeezing Shropshire for the first ever dyna-mix ceilidh at Sundorne School, Shrewsbury.”
Music at the dance will be provided by the Dyna-mix Workshp Ceilidh Band who will have joined together for the first time the week before to play, learn and practice enough tunes to keep dancers on their toes throughout the evening of July 19th.
The Buffalo Gals Stampede will also take to the floor, with all the proceedings being kept in place by the calling of MC Bev Langton.
Details of the Workshop, ceilidh tickets and all other information are available from bev.langton@talk21.com or 07799 408297.
