Broseley business supports care home

A fundraising appeal by the Lady Forester Care Home in Broseley has won support from a local business.

Harwood Shropshire Ltd which has premises on the high street is making donations to furnish a storeroom which is being renovated to create a family room in the care home.

Harwood Managing Director Patrick Smitheman and his Director wife Annie won the rug in an auction and they have also pledged to sponsor a walk up Snowdon next month (July) to raise money for the home’s ‘comfort fund.’

A dozen walkers, including three members of staff, will be taking part in the Snowdon event on July 9 and are looking for sponsorship

“It is hoped that through the comfort fund the home will be able to provide some little extras for the benefits of residents,” said Annie.

“At the same time they are seeking donations of furniture items such as settees, chairs and curtains for the room that is being renovated and we felt it might be appropriate to donate the rug we won.”

Cheryl Weymouth, a member of the fundraising committee at the Lady Forester Care Home, said it was hoped work on the renovation would start in earnest after the sponsored walk.

“We are hoping the family room will provide privacy for families when they need it and the rug from Patrick and Annie will be one of the final touches,” added Cheryl whose mother Iris Close has been a resident at the home for the last three years.
