The event was held at Shrewsbury Baptist Church, in Crowmere Road, Shrewsbury to help raise awareness of the financial and practical help that is available to people who look after a family member, friend or neighbour.
The event was organised by the Carer Support Team of Shropshire Rural Community Council in conjunction with Shropshire Council, and over 60 carers from across the region attended.
Workshops included topics covering caring and the impact on family relationships, eligibility criteria to services for carers and planning for the future, covering wills, trusts and powers of attorney.
Sarah Dillon of Shropshire Council Adult Social Care said: “It has been very valuable to get positive suggestions and feedback here today from the carers and especially in relation to changes due to the Care Act.”
Celia McIntyre of Shropshire RCC, added: “We are delighted with the number of carers who have come along today to find out just what help is available to them.
“Far too many people think of themselves as wives, husbands, sisters or brothers instead of recognising that they are actually carers and therefore entitled to the many services and assistance that is on offer.”
