She has raised £526 and the Santander Foundation has pledged to match the money she’s raised.

Jessica Pelling and her colleague from Santander in Cardiff, Victoria Edwards, travelled to Mid Wales to meet with other members of Santander staff to tackle the 1,085m trek to the top of the highest mountain in England and Wales.

Jessica said: “I have never attempted anything like this before. I was very unfit six months ago when I signed up for the challenge; I couldn’t run without getting out of breath. I did a lot of preparation for Snowdon; I joined a new gym and climbed a steep hill in Telford called the Wrekin every week. By the time I climbed Snowdon I had lost two stone and felt so much healthier. I feel really proud of our achievements. It was a tough challenge and a fantastic adventure for a great cause.”

Peter Wanless, NSPCC Chief Executive, said: “This was an incredible challenge. It is tough to trek to the top of Snowdon in daylight but to tackle the mountain in the dark, with nothing but a head torch to light the way, must have been very hard. We want to thank Jessica and all the Santander team for their fantastic support.”

Following an employee vote, the NSPCC, the UK’s leading children’s charity specialising in child protection, was chosen as Santander’s Charity of the Year for 2014. The partnership aims to raise £1 million to fund the ChildLine Schools Service which is set to visit every primary school in Shropshire by 2016 to talk to children aged 9-11 about abuse, how to protect themselves and where to get help if they need it.
