Bakers Patterns Ltd has experienced a lot of changes to their business over the last few years, but boss John Baker says despite the work appearing on national television and praise from clients across the world it has been one person just a stones throw away from their factory that made the most difference.

The model and pattern making company, based at Stafford Park, enlisted the services of one of Shropshire’s leading professional business management companies.

Julie Owen of Wellington-based Jigsaw Business Management Ltd took over the financial services for Bakers Patterns last year. Managing director Mr Baker said the help has transformed his business.

He said: “It is the first time I have outsourced and I cannot believe I did not do it sooner.

“We had it in house before but the person only worked half a day a week so we could not send out any invoices from a Tuesday onwards.

“Julie has improved and streamline our invoicing system, we now have instant access to it and our cash flow has increased.

“It is run so much smarter now, it is more efficient and is one element of the business I don’t have to worry about.”

Bakers Patterns Ltd is also responsible for creating prop patterns for blockbuster movies such as Captain America, Zero Dark Thirty, Thor: The Dark World, Promethius and soon to be released Guardians Of The Galaxy, Jupiter Ascending and Exodus: Gods And Kings.

Mr Baker said using Jigsaw Business Management meant that he and his team can now focus on manufacturing and production which has enabled them to take on more work.

“It has been a breathe of fresh air,” he added.

“Our turnover has increased because we are doing more work now.

“We are getting invoices out quicker so the cash flow is better and turnover goes up – it makes business sense and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Julie at Jigsaw.”

Julie Owen, a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, set up her business in 2007 and said working with Bakers Pattern Ltd on a day to day basis is an honour.

She said: “For businesses outsourcing the complex financial management means the directors can continue developing their company and doing what they do best, whilst the Jigsaw team ensure that growth and development is reflected in the figures.

“That is exactly what we aimed to do with John and his team at Bakers Patterns Ltd, we are in contact every day and it means their invoices are sent and paid more quickly.

“To know that we have already made an impact on the efficiency of their business is an honour, it drives us on to see how else we can help the business grow.”
