
Carewatch (Mid Shropshire), based at Stafford Park, Telford, currently has 75 carers who work with elderly and disabled people across the county. But bosses plan to have up to 150 staff by the end of the year.
Managing director Steve Harris said: “We have been going for just over 14 years and the way the company has developed in that time has been remarkable.
“We have been very busy and have constantly expanded the range of services we offer including 24-hour care, adult care, care for children, live-in carers, personal care and risk assessments in the home, we’re now also moving into corporate support services.
“This year is going to be a big year for us and we hope to have about 100 to 150 carers by the end of it.
“We need to take more people on simply to meet the demand.”
The company launched in 1999 and is run by Steve and his wife Sally.
It is one of the longest-running franchises under the Carewatch name, which began in Brighton in 1993.
Carewatch (Mid Shropshire) has previously won a number of awards, such as Business of the Year and Recognising National Care Organisations’ Contribution in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
“Recently we have taken on three new members of staff in the HR department,” Mr Harris added.
“Last year we really focussed on perfecting what we do and how we deliver services to clients, this has resulted in an increasing demand for new good quality staff.”
The company has recently invested in new psychometric testing and career planning software to ensure the right staff are recruited for the right jobs.
Judy Kelly, one of the new HR employees with 20 years’ experience, said: “It’s really exciting, we have a new approach and some additional benefits to offer potential employees that set us apart from the pack.”
Mr Harris added: “Because of this and last years’ investment, we are now ready to expand – but it has come quicker than we thought.
“The new jobs will be for carers, support staff, admin personnel and specialist roles.
“It is a very exciting time for the company and we cannot wait to find good quality workers just like the dedicated staff we already have.”
Mr Harris said it is an industry that will simply continue to create jobs because of the way the demographics of society are changing.
He said over the next 20 years, the number of people who are over 65-years-old will rise as well as the number of disabled people and those with dementia.
Additionally the company is seeing an increasing number of people paying for their own care.
“The social care system will need to keep up with changes in this demography,” Mr Harris said.
“Carewatch (Mid Shropshire) has a standard policy of promoting from within and encouraging young people to be involved with care management as well as care delivery.
“Taking out the directors, the average age within the office is 26 which makes for a dynamic environment. Of these only two have joined directly into their post, with everyone being encouraged to take qualifications applicable for their role.
“Additionally, the company ensures that no one is paid less than the living wage, a rarity in this sector.
“We will be looking for all types of people throughout the year from different backgrounds and with different levels of experience.”
