The event, on Sunday 1st July will help raise funds for the North Shropshire Community First Responder Scheme towards more equipment for its team of volunteers who, on the day, will take part in the carnival procession, help with the running of the event and be on hand to speak to visitors about the work they do.
Scheme co-ordinator Tonnya Blaise said: “North Shropshire Community First Responders are delighted to be chosen to be this year’s carnival charity. The carnival seems to be growing year by year .The people of Market Drayton really make it a special day.”
Carnival Chairman Lee Ridgway said: “The carnival committee were unanimous in choosing the first Responders as its chosen charity in recognition of the hard and important work they do in the town and around the county. They also hope the public will support them by giving generously on carnival day to enable them to keep delivering this vital service.â€
The North Shropshire Community First Responder Scheme covers all areas of the north of the county including Market Drayton, Wem, Whitchurch, Newport, Hinstock and Shawbury. It is a registered charity (charity number 1136523) funded by voluntary donation.
Their volunteers are trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service in lifesaving techniques including the use of a defibrillator, a device used to restart the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest. They can then be sent by the ambulance service’s control room to medical emergencies while an ambulance resource is en-route.
