You don’t automatically associate artistic expression with accountancy, but the two disciplines came together perfectly for ‘An Evening of Art’ at CBSL Accountants.

The event marked the launch of the company’s very own art gallery of portraits by staff and their children which will now be on permanent display.
Guests were joined by Shropshire artists, painter Simon Barford and sculptor Shaughn O’Brien, who bought along a selection of their work and Ross Callaghan from the Fine Arts Works in Whitchurch, specialists in framing original art for private individuals, restaurants and corporate clients.
Adrian Barker, Managing Director at CBSL Accountants said: “We came up with the idea for the art gallery earlier in the year when we were looking at ways to make our working environment somewhere we really wanted to be. We’re a very family centric company and many of the employees have children, so hanging some of their art on the walls made sense.”
He added: “Back in the summer we had a family fun day and as part of that we invited the children in to create pictures with their parents and the gallery is a result of that plus a few additions from employees. It proved really popular and make us all smile each day.”
CBSL Accountants are based at Shrewsbury Business Park and offer expert accountancy advice and services to local, regional and international clients.
Guests on the evening got to see the work of self-taught artist and local hairdresser Simon Barford who runs the DJB salon in Fish Street. His landscaped and bold brush strokes have won him a legion of fans as far away as Antigua and he is booked up for several months with commissions.
Shaughn O’Brien has had an illustrious career as a surgeon and is now heading up a major European medical research study. Working in bronze and mixed media his sculptures have been exhibited both locally and in London at the Royal Society of Medicine.
Adrian added: “It was lovely to see so many people on the evening and our staff and visitors will, I am sure, continue to enjoy the art gallery for many years to come.
