A self-storage company in Telford is doing its bit to help needy families in Shropshire have a proper Christmas dinner this year.
The Space Place in Stafford Park has donated 50 cardboard boxes to Telford Food Bank, helping volunteers to store more food – meaning they can support more people.
Last year, the food bank delivered 150 food boxes for families and people in need at Christmas, and preparations are well under way for this year’s Christmas campaign.
This year, young people taking part in the National Citizen Service are taking charge of the Season’s Eatings project, which aims to ensure that no-one goes without a good meal on Christmas Day.
Ian Freeman, manager at The Space Place, said the company was delighted to be able to help charities at Christmas, and had donated packaging to Telford Rotary Club for its charity wrapping service as well as giving boxes to Telford Food Bank.
He said: “We have provided bubblewrap to the Rotary Club for them to use at their Christmas wrapping stall for the past few years and have done so again this year.
“But it is the first time we have teamed up with the food bank, which we are only too happy to do, because they do a fantastic job especially at this time of year which can be very difficult for people who are struggling.
“Giving them some of our storage boxes for them to provide food parcels at Christmas was the least we could do.”
Erin Aston, of Telford Crisis Support, which runs the food bank, said help from companies like The Space Place was vital.
She said: “We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of Telford businesses and this year has been no different.
“The Space Place got in touch after seeing our appeal for help on Facebook and we are very grateful for their support.
“The Season’s Eatings project really does make a big difference to people’s lives because it helps to ensure that even those who may not be able to afford a decent meal every day can at least tuck into a proper Christmas dinner just like everyone else.
“We are still looking for donations of food and other items so I would appeal for people to get in touch if they have anything they can spare.”
