Shrewsbury MP fighting to keep A&E at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Daniel Kawczynski, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham has met with NHS officials both at a national and local level to ensure accident and emergency services remain at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Daniel said: “I am conscious that in a number of weeks a decision will be made on the future delivery of health care in Shropshire, but even at this late stage, it is vital that I continue to lobby the Secretary of State for Health and officials at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to ensure that Royal Shrewsbury Hospital retains its accident and emergency services.

“I have always made it very clear that what is most important in this latest reconfiguration of hospital services is that we secure the best possible emergency provision the people of Shropshire and Mid-Wales; and that we have a health care service that will last for generations. I have been willing to listen to alternative proposals and business cases put forward by NHS clinicians and have considered their arguments very carefully.

“The decision not to build a new facility mid-way between Shrewsbury and Telford means that that only sensible conclusion is that accident and emergency remain in Shrewsbury. Any other option in my mind would not be sustainable and would put considerable strain on support teams such as the ambulance services.”

There is currently an on-line petition at https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/105131 Some 9,100 people have signed up to keep accident and emergency services at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. If that figure reaches 10,000 signatures, a government response to the petition will be triggered.
