Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a well known man in Shrewsbury.
Police were called by a member of the public at around 12.20pm on Sunday, 12 July to reports of a man found collapsed in the River Severn at Sydney Ave, Castlefields.
John Thorley, aged 67, from the Harlescott area was pronounced dead at the scene.
PC Davies-Moss of West Mercia Police said: “Mr Thorley is believed to have been a well known man around the town who would regularly visit the Harlescott Social Club, Heathgates Pub, Coracle, Telegraph, Coach and Horses, Compasses in Ditherington, and The Rock and Fountain.
“We are trying to piece together John’s whereabouts prior to him being found in the river, and would encourage members of the community to help in this matter.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have made arrangements to meet up with Mr Thorley on the evening of Saturday 11 July 2015, and anyone who may have seen him within the time frame stated.
“Therefore, we are appealing for anyone who may have any information or may have seen John between Friday 10 July and Sunday 12 July, to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 312s of 12 July.”
A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
