Students from Telford College are helping the town’s Business Partnership with a market research exercise.
The students, on Office Skills, Executive PA, and Business & Enterprise courses, spent an afternoon at Martin-Kaye Solicitors in Telford Town Centre.
Their mission was to help Telford Business Partnership carry out a market research exercise, speaking to current, past, and prospective members.
Jo Bourne and Gemma Welch, work placement co-ordinators at the college, supervised the students.
Jo said: “We are always looking for opportunities to secure work placements for our students, with local companies.
“This is a mandatory element on our courses now, and is vitally important in giving our students the sort of practical, real-life skills they will need when they get a job.
“They have been carrying out face-to-face interviews with Telford Business Partnership members, as well as conducting telephone interviews, asking people for their views about the organisation.
“Employers want candidates with key employability skills, and these include interview techniques, a good telephone manner, and the ability to communicate.”
Jan Minihane, who is TBP’s chair elect, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to interact with real business people in a real situation, and we’re very pleased with the way they handled the challenge.
“We’re now looking forward to their report on the comments they collected, and we’ll be sharing the information with all our members and using it to develop a strong and focused marketing campaign moving forwards.”
