The horse had tried to jump over the metal gate when the incident happened off Valeswood Lane in Little Ness.
Fire appliances including the rescue tender from Baschurch and Wellington were mobilised following a call reporting the incident at just before 5.30pm.
A vet was also in attendance, the horse was sedated before it was hoisted from the gate and back onto the ground.
