Jessica Owen joined GHP Legal as a paralegal in the firm’s civil litigation and commercial property departments in September 2023 and was offered a solicitor training contract just three months later.

Having had a keen interest in the legal profession from an early age, Jessica studied Law and Criminal Justice at Liverpool John Moores University before staying on to complete the Legal Practice Course with Masters of Law, in which she gained a merit.

Whilst studying for her LLM LPC, Jessica also volunteered at the Liverpool John Moores University Legal Advice Centre, which takes on pro bono cases and provides free legal advice to individuals and businesses, including start-ups, social enterprises, charities, and the independent economy.

GHP Legal is a longstanding supporter of the Solicitors Training Programme. Trainees undertake a six-monthly ‘seat’ in various departments across the firm’s four offices in Oswestry, Wrexham and Llangollen, where they receive the support and supervision that enables them to work with a variety of clients, from large, high-profile corporates to high net-worth individuals.

Following Jessica’s milestone achievement, GHP Legal has also announced the award of training contracts to four of its paralegals. Ola Slawinska, Nicole Kukla, Caitlin Hughes and Nathan Lloyd-Davies are now on their journey to become fully qualified solicitors.

Congratulating newly qualified Jessica and the latest trainees to be offered a contract, GHP Legal Partner, Ulia Choudhry, said:

“The final journey to qualification provides law graduates with the training and experience needed to become trusted legal advisers and technically proficient lawyers. As a firm we are lucky to be able to recruit so many high calibre graduates, many of whom stay with us after qualifying.

“As Jessica will confirm, qualifying as a solicitor requires a lot of hard work and commitment. I commend her for her achievements and wish her every success in her future career as a lawyer now that she has qualified. Good luck also to our four new trainees as we help them to build a strong foundation for their future careers.”
