Shrewsbury-based Radfield Home Care, whose wide-range of services span from meal preparation right through to palliative care, is reaching out to adult children throughout the county who are being forced to cope with the relentless demands of tending to an aging parent.
According to a study by the London School of Economics and Political Science, unpaid caregivers will be placed under increasing pressure to juggle work and care for their parents, creating inequality in the workplace and potentially at a big cost to the labour market.
By 2032, there is projected to be a shortfall of 16,000 care-givers in England, and demand is expected to exceed supply in just four years time.
“With an aging population, there are a growing number of people in their early fifties in Shropshire alone facing the challenges of caring for a parent or parents,” explained Director of Radfield Home Care, Dr Hannah MacKechnie. “It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to care for an aging loved one, and unpaid carers risk jeopardising their own physical and emotional health, as well as short-changing their financial future if they decide to reduce their workload or even give up their job.”
