Prestfelde School in London Road introduced children aged from three to five years old in 1989 and is marking the silver anniversary of the expansion this autumn.

Headmaster Mark Groome said that ’Little Prestfelde’ was continuing to grow and thrive 25 years after the introduction of girls and boys into nursery and reception.

“We were responding to a demand all those years ago for younger children to be educated at Prestfelde and today these classes are still extremely popular with little ones from throughout Shropshire,” he said.

He added that a new nursery teacher, Mrs Katie Akers, had just joined the school and a new head of Little Prestfelde, Mrs Emma Thelwell, had also recently been recruited.

“We are delighted to announce that school numbers for the whole of Prestfelde now stand at around 285 – a very healthy total. We are looking forward to the next quarter of a century in our nursery,” he said.

Prestfelde is hosting an open morning on October 10th when prospective pupils and their parents can have a tour of the school and see new facilities, including an expanded playground area, and view progress made on the new chapel and theatre.

They will also be able to chat to staff and pupils and meet the headmaster Mark Groome. Anyone interested in attending should contact Caroline Williams on 01743 245400.
