The children from Prestfelde School in London Road collected the cash for Headway Shropshire, which raises funds to help adults and children who have suffered a brain injury, by wearing hats for the day.

“We asked the children to make a donation towards the charity for dressing in non uniform and wearing a hat too,” said Prestfelde registrar Caroline Williams.

“The day also featured other attractions, including the usual popular cakes and biscuits sale at break time, as well as activities such as a raffle and guess the number of sweets in a hat competition.”

Prizes were presented during school assembly the following day for the best dressed hat in the infants, middle and senior school and Lizzie Evans from Headway Shropshire, which is based on Oxon Business Park in Shrewsbury, visited the school to collect the £615.59 raised.

Pupils from Prestfelde regularly take part in events and fund-raising efforts for a range of charities and good causes.

Last month they raised £715 for Hope House Hospice by organising a ‘Welly’ Day and next term a dress-down day is planned in aid of the bone cancer centre at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital.
