
A south Shropshire chapel is one of four churches in the county to receive funding for essential repairs.
Heath Chapel, Bouldon near Stoke St Milborogh was awarded £100,000 the funding to prevent further damage to the 12th Century Norman Church.
South Shropshire MP, Philip Dunne has welcomed announcement saying:
“Heath Chapel is an important example of historic Norman church in rural South Shropshire, and this funding will help ensure it remains for future generations.”
Other local churches benefiting from the fund include St Peter AD Vincula in Tibberton receiving £83,800, St John the Baptist Church, Kenley gets £93,800, Shrewsbury’s Roman Catholic Cathedral receives £280,866 to create disabled access to the front porch, and St Catherine in Tugford will benefit from £100,000.
Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said:
“Churches and Cathedrals are a unique part of our national heritage, and play a vital role in community life – we want to support them, and thanks to our long-term economic plan, we can. Whether it’s our country’s future or these important buildings, the sun is shining and we’re starting to fix the roof.”
