Fire rips through The Tayleur Arms in Longdon-upon-Tern

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service

Fire Control took a number of calls at 2:30am this morning reporting that the public house was on fire.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service initially sent three appliances and an officer to the scene, but due to the severity of the fire, they quickly requested additional support.

At the height of the fire there were ten fire engines, the Aerial Ladder Platform, Water Carrier, Pumping unit and several operational officers in attendance. Firefighters from Wellington, Shrewsbury, Tweedale, Hodnet, Telford Central, Oswestry and Newport attended the scene.

It’s understood lack of water pressure caused issues for firefighters at the scene with a pumping unit providing water from the nearby River Tern.

In addition the Fire & Emergency Support Service, which is staffed by volunteers from The British Red Cross, was also mobilised to offer support and shelter to the owners of the property.

Owners, Richard and Eve Harvey along with one of their son’s Elliot were in the property when the fire broke out. The following was posted on the Tayleur Arms Facebook page this morning:

Unfortunately we had a major fire last night at the Tayleur. We are thankful that Richard, Eve and their son escaped and are safe, however everything has gone in the fire. It’s sad. We will obviously be closed for quite sometime.

Crews remain at the scene as an investigation into the fire is carried out by fire officers.

The B5063 through Longdon-upon-Tern is closed between Rushmoor Lane and the Sugden Lane junction.
