Overnight road closures will take place between Marshbrook and Little Stretton, from 9.30pm to 5.30am, Monday to Friday, for four weeks.
Northbound traffic will be diverted off the A49 at the junction with the B4368 Craven Arms and travel via the B4368, A458 and the A5 to rejoin the A49 at the Hereford Road roundabout.
Southbound traffic will leave the A49 at the junction with the B4371 at Church Stretton and take the B4371, A458 and B4368 to rejoin the A49 at the Craven Arms.
Access to properties for local residents will be maintained, although traffic will be led through the roadworks by escort vehicles.
Highways Agency project manager Purnima Kaul said:
“We will be repairing storm drains in 35 different areas. Twenty-four of these are in the verge, five are at the edge of the carriageway and six are in the carriageway itself. As with the associated resurfacing it is only possible to carry out the work under full closures. However, the work will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption.
“Once complete there will be an improved driving surface and road drainage and reduced occurrences of roadside flooding.”
