Taking place on Saturday 18th May between 8.00am and 9.00pm in Telford Shopping Centre, the charity which supports homeless young people in Telford, has lined up local performers who are on target to break the current record of 12 hours and eight minutes.
The event will be the curtain-raiser for Stay’s Telford Homeless Action Week which will run between Monday 20th May and Sunday 26th May to raise funds.
Hundreds of local people have already pledged their support for the record attempt including singers, groups, dance troupes and school choirs. Adjudicators from the Guinness Book of Records have stipulated that each act should perform for a maximum of ten minutes at any one time and that no act can perform for more than 30 minutes in total. To secure the record, Stay’s Director John Green is urging other local performers to come forward:
‘We’ve had fantastic support from local people who are coming to join the party. This will be a real community effort and we are asking performers who want to help us secure the world record, to make contact with us as soon as possible to register their acts. Variety is the key word – we want as many different acts as possible and of all abilities.
‘The event will headline a week of fundraising that we’ve lined up to raise the awareness of homelessness faced by many young people in our area. We’re really grateful to everyone who is supporting us.’
Other events taking place during the week-long event are ‘The Wrekin Stay’ – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for local people to spend the night on the summit of the iconic Shropshire landmark. Campers will be charged £10 for each adult with free admission for children.
Stay Telford provides housing and support services for 250 young people and families each year, who through no fault of their own, find themselves without shelter or support.
