Woman and teenager arrested following Marshbrook burglary

Police were called to Shropshire Outdoor in Marshbrook at about 11.20pm last night, following reports people in the adjoining pub had disturbed a group removing items from the shop.

The suspects had allegedly made off before police arrived but a search of the area led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male in the Minton road area.

One of the suspects was reported to have driven from the scene in a silver Vauxhall Vectra car but had been followed by a member of the public in his own vehicle, who was able to direct police to his location.

Sight of the car was lost when officers caught up near Morville but it was discovered a few minutes later, having crashed into a verge. A 27-year-old woman, believed to be the driver of the car, was arrested a short distance away.

Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy, who is investigating the incident, praised the public who assisted the police.

“From those in the Station Inn who called us immediately after hearing noises in the adjoining store to the man who drove after the silver Vauxhall when it left the scene, it was with the help of the public that we were able to make such swift arrests in this case,” he said.

“Last year we launched Citadel and Citadel Commercial to deal with an increase in burglary in Shropshire and both seem to be having a positive effect on driving down offences across the force area, with levels dropping significantly in the past few months.

“The Vauxhall has been recovered from Morville for a forensic examination and both suspects remain in police custody, awaiting interview.

Anyone who might have witnessed the incident but has not yet spoken to police is asked to get in touch on 101.
