Two arrested over cigarette theft in Bomere Heath

Officers were called to The Co-Operative in Bomere Heath at 4.20pm yesterday, following reports a man had distracted till staff before grabbing a security bag of cigarettes from behind the counter.

Police were told the suspect had driven off in a white van, last seen heading south on the A49 between the Sundorne and Preston islands.

A patrol searching the area found the vehicle close to Junction 7 of the M54 and pulled it over just before 4.30pm.

A 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from the Liverpool area, were arrested on suspicion of theft and remain in police custody at this time.

A bag of cigarettes was found in the van and the vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.

Anyone who was in the area of the shop in Shrewsbury Road at the time and witnessed anything suspicious is asked to contact police on 101.
