Jake Farrell from Cockshutt, a soldier in the 3 Rifles based at Redford Barracks in Edinburgh, was on a routine patrol in an armored vehicle when it drove over an IED two week’s ago.
Jake suffered a fractured leg, broken ribs and a double fracture to his jaw. He also required 15 stitches.
The patrol was travelling along a road when the IED detonated as the vehicle passed directly over the top. Jake who was travelling on an exposed part of the vehicle was shaken around during the blast which caused most of his injuries.
Other soldiers traveling in the vehicle were uninjured apart from bruising and grazes.
Jake who was this morning raising money for the charity Help for Heroes during the opening of the refurbished Curry’s store said he is looking forward to welcoming his comrades back when they return to the UK.
