The Independent Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police has secured one of the major titles at the Social Enterprise West Midlands Awards.
Bill Longmore, who has been in position since November 2012, beat off the challenge of tens of candidates from across the region to secure the SE Inspire Award.
He impressed judges with his commitment to reducing reoffending in the area by giving ex-offenders the opportunity to fully engage back with society through his support of a number of dedicated programmes.
These give individuals the chance to learn skills and get experience that will help them re-enter employment and, longer-term, reduce the risk of them being involved in future criminal activity.
Sallie Ryan, Partnerships Manager at Social Enterprise West Midlands (SEWM), commented:
“This is one of the biggest award ceremonies in our sector and it is only right that we recognise organisations, enterprises and individuals that are creating businesses that have a sustainable impact on the communities in which they operate.
“We had a record number of entries this year, showcasing tales of expansion, innovation, passion, community spirit and employee development. These are serious businesses, with clear strategies that are being delivered and helping to add wealth and jobs to the West Midlands.”
She continued: “Bill Longmore is a hugely inspirational figure that has stood by his convictions to give reoffenders a structured pathway back into society and employment. This takes guts, determination, resilience and vision, something he has in abundance.”
“We have also had a fantastic response from our supporters who make this event happen, including sponsors Amey, Big Society Capital, PwC, UnLtd, Development in Social Enterprise and the Enterprise Foundation.”
