Local Sainsbury’s staff win day at London 2012 Paralympic Games

Mike Pearn, Sandra Curshen, Vanessa Jones, Hayleigh Brownhill and Alan Horlick who work at Sainsbury’s Telford, together with Carly Duppa, Marian Cunnington, Claire Bellamy and Tracy West who work at Sainsbury’s Bridgnorth and colleagues from the other Regional Stores, will be making their way to the Paralympic Games on Monday.

They will make up a total of 5000 colleagues attending the event and will be guaranteed access to three wheelchair basketball matches on the day, after nominating themselves or being nominated to win a place to attend on the day.

Thousands of colleagues across the country entered in the hope to attend this once in lifetime trip to the Olympic Park.

Sandra Curshen was chosen because she feels inspired by people who have overcome their disabilities to achieve so much in the Paralympics and is looking forward to sharing her experiences of the day, when she returns to Telford Store.

Store Manager Mr Ian Sutton said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for Sandra Curshen and she really deserves it. Across our local region, many of our colleagues have helped to raise the profile of the Paralympic Games and I know all our colleagues are now looking forward to cheering on our Paralympic teams to glory”.

Sandra Curshen added: “I’m really honoured to have been chosen from so many entries and it’s a great opportunity to meet other colleagues from across the country and learn about their Paralympic experience”.

Sainsbury’s is one of the main sponsors of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which take place from 29th August to 9th September. Sandra Curshen who works as a full time Counters Assistant in store will travel to London and will then head to the Olympic Park’s Basketball Arena in Stratford, East London to see Mexico vs Germany at 10.45am. They will also get the opportunity to visit Blind Football, Goalball and Wheelchair Tennis matches.
