V Festival at Weston Park for 2014

V Festival Logo 2014

This year it’s US stars The Killers and Justin Timberlake who are headlining the V Festival.

They are just two of the big names that will be performing at the two day event that is held at Hylands Park and Weston Park this Saturday and Sunday the 16 and 17 August.

Across its four stages there will be performances from Paolo Nutini, Lily Allen, Rudimental, Train, Newton Faulkner, M People, Tinie Tempah, Jason Derulo, Rizzle Kicks, Katy B, Aloe Blacc, Rita Ora and many more – see below for the full line up.

The event is also mixed with comedy with many famous faces performing on the Glee Comedy Stage including Alan Carr, Adam Hills, Rob Beckett and Paul Chowdhry.

With once again many people camping out throughout the weekend and spending all day at the festival this can lead to medical problems.

West Midlands Ambulance Service though will once again be working in partnership with Venture Event Medical Management and St. John Ambulance, to ensure first-class medical services are available onsite for the thousands attending the festival, making it one of the safest festivals in the country.

Talking about the festival Steve Wheaton, Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer said: “We are urging festival goers to follow a few simple tips over the weekend’s event to ensure they get to spend their time in the music tent rather than the medical centre.

“Over the years I have encountered huge variations in the weather throughout festival events. Savvy festival goers will bring waterproof clothing, such as a rain coat, their wellies and sensible footwear to help avoid any unnecessary slips and falls, as well as some sun cream and a hat should the sun decide to shine over the park.

“The festival is a fun, good natured and overall has a history of being a very safe event. Every year we will see a handful of people over-doing it on the first night and sadly having to go home early, missing the entire festival. Therefore it is important that people are sensible with their intake of alcohol and I would advise people to drink plenty of water and soft drinks to avoid dehydration and please don’t forget to eat regularly.

“If you are on medication please remember to bring enough to last throughout the whole weekend and don’t forget to take it. It is helpful to keep friends informed of any medical conditions that you have or any medication you may be taking as they could help our medical teams should you become ill and aren’t in a position to tell us yourself.”

The idea for V came in 1996 when Pulp’s front man Jarvis Cocker announced he’d love to play two outdoor venues in two days. Pulps promoters got together and came up with the idea of putting the gig in two places giving fans in both the North and South a chance to see the band.

Then came the idea of adding more bands to the bill, putting on a second stage and letting people camp for the weekend. V Festival was the first UK festival to operate over two days and swap line-ups overnight.

Unusually though with tickets usually selling out within hours this year’s event still has tickets unsold which some have put down to an uninspiring line-up something organisers dismiss and point to the economic climate as the problem.
