Model Half Term Fun – Quick as Lightning

This February Half Term, the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford is inviting families to celebrate one of the great jets of English aviation by participating in a fun model making activity. Taking place from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd February, each visitor will have the opportunity to build their own Airfix 1:72 Lightning, amongst the real aircraft of the Museum.

Modelling sessions will take place alongside the famous Airfix 1:1 scale model Spitfire built by TV presenter James May, as part of his quest to successfully boost the popularity of the hobby amongst the younger generations. If you need a little inspiration on how to paint your own model Lightning, why not take a look at the real Lightning, suspended from the ceiling of the Museum’s award winning National Cold War Exhibition. This supersonic jet fighter of the Cold War era was famous for its great speed and ability to climb to high altitudes quickly. Your Airfix model replica will be the perfect momento of a visit well spent.

Model making sessions will be take place in the Museum’s Hangar 1 from 11:00am to 3:00pm each day. Participation is a very affordable £3.00 per person with all materials including kit, glue, paints and brushes provided by the Museum. Tickets are available on the day from the Admissions Desk. Please note, however, that all children wishing to participate in this experience will have to be accompanied by a responsible adult and that children under 8 may need additional assistance from the adult accompanying them.
