Hendra House has won the Employer of the Year Award at the Caring UK Awards in Leicester for its commitment to staff development, and named County Training as instrumental to their success.

The Residential Care Home based in Ludlow received the award on the 6th December at the impressive Athena event centre following a competitive voting period, which resulted in the firm being shortlisted as one of six finalists.
The company was shortlisted as a result of its staff training and the way it supports them both inside and outside the business– key factors for staff retention and growth of any business.
Since 2003, Hendra House has focused on developing staff through the Training provider County Training and currently has 9 staff on programme working towards qualifications in Hospitality, Health and Social Care and Management, from Level 2 right up to Level 5.
Commenting on the award, Registered Manager Vince Burmingham said “We have chosen to develop our own staff with the assistance of County Training…we have a 100% completion rate…and are in the privileged position of having a waiting list for staff due to minimal staff turnover. I am convinced that our apprenticeship programmes have been instrumental in us being an “outstanding” rated home and achieving numerous other national awards”
Lindsay Giess, a Level 5 County Training apprentice with Hendra House, who was also in attendance at the awards, commented: “I’m so pleased that Hendra House has received recognition for outstanding team work and how much Vince and Gill invest and treat their staff. We have a great partnership with County Training, they know our ethos and how we work.”
Lindsay went on to say “I started on a Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification with County Training and am now working towards my Level 5 management qualification. A large proportion of staff train on apprenticeships and progress well internally. My assessor Sharon Stephens is a great assessor, very supportive and able to adapt to individual learning styles Hendra House is a very rewarding place to work with a feeling of appreciation.”
Kerry O’Brien from County Training said: “We are so pleased that Hendra House is benefiting so much from County Training apprenticeships and encourage more businesses to find out how this recruitment method could work for their own business. Apprenticeships can be used to train existing staff, as well as a recruitment method to recruit new staff and this service is free.”
