Staff at a Newport firm have been celebrating after one of their colleagues completed 30 years’ service.

Carol McEwan joined Henshalls Insurance Brokers in 1988 and initially worked in the typing pool in the firm’s office in the High Street.
After a couple of years, director Martin Pitchford invited her to be his personal assistant – a role which she still carries out three decades on.
“I can’t believe how quickly the years seem to have gone by, and it’s been wonderful to work with so many kind, friendly and knowledgeable colleagues,” said Mrs McEwan.
“It has been a real pleasure building relationships with all the Henshalls clients, many of whom have been with us for most – if not all – of my years here.
“As Henshalls is such a close-knit team, we all work together to ensure that the service we offer to our clients is always the very best it can be.”
Mr Pitchford said: “I have been extremely lucky to have Carol by my side for the last 28 years.
“I can honestly say we have never had a cross word and she has been a most valuable and integral part of the continued success of Henshalls.
“We are very proud to have a wealth of talented, professional and long-serving employees, and Carol is a leading light who maintains a fantastic relationship with all our customers.
“We are very proud that she has chosen to spend her career with us, and we value her as a priceless asset to our business.”
Henshalls currently employs over 30 people, and every one is a locally-based worker, with the vast majority living in Newport itself.
They also have several recent school leavers working their way through the ranks with ambitions to become fully-fledged insurance brokers.
And at a time when many companies have been either cutting back on staff or consolidating, Henshalls have taken on two new apprentices in the past year.
